FORT WORTH, Texas (November 30, 2011) – NTSP physician Dr. Steven Meyers has always been athletic. Born in Houston, Texas and raised in Richardson, Meyers was always active in sports so the decision to pursue a career in sports medicine was a no brainer.

“I always thought medicine would be my career choice,” said Dr. Meyers. “I was involved in sports from an early age and childhood visits to the pediatrician sparked my interest in medicine. It just made sense to combine these two interests and become a sports medicine physician. I could help athletes recover from injuries and help them return to the sport they love.”

Meyers completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin (UT), medical school at the University of Houston Health Science Center, family practice residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and his sports medicine fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He began his medical career at an orthopedic clinic in Corpus Christi, Texas. Meyers moved to Fort Worth in 2003 and accepted an invitation to join Texas Health Care (THC) Bone and Joint Clinic.

THC Bone and Joint Clinic is located in Fort Worth, Texas and specializes in the evaluation and treatment of all musculoskeletal problems and sports injuries in addition to providing physical therapy. Meyers and his associates at THC Bone and Joint Clinic have a history of caring for athletes in the community, including TCU athletes, athletes in the Texas Ballet Theater, and rodeo participants at the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

Outside of his practice, Meyers is involved in volunteer work with Texas Christian University (TCU) and Trinity Valley School. At TCU, Meyers works with the athletic department, conducting team physicals each year and providing clinical physician coverage at team events. At Trinity Valley School, Meyers is the school’s team physician and spends Friday nights along the sidelines at many of the school’s athletic events.

Meyers finds volunteering is a good way to give back to the community and he enjoys staying connected to the sports he loves. “My previous involvement in sports allows me to relate to the athletes I care for today,” said Meyers. “I truly enjoy helping athletes get back to what they love doing. I enjoy being on the sidelines.”

In his free time, Meyers enjoys photography, mountain biking, wake boarding, and spending time with his family. A little known fact about him is he was recruited to be a cheerleader for UT after doing a backflip at a college party.

Meyers is a sports medicine physician serving the residents of Fort Worth for over eight years. He has been a member of NTSP since 2003. To learn more about THC Bone and Joint Clinic, visit www.thcboneandjoint.com. To learn more about NTSP, visit www.ntsp.com.
