Fort Worth, Texas (February 7, 2012) – Dr. Stephen Brotherton is one busy doctor volunteering his time and talents to a number of community and charitable organizations. Brotherton’s most recent volunteer activity includes a partnership with Project Access Tarrant County (PATC), a local organization providing health care access to the uninsured.

Project Access Tarrant County, sponsored by Tarrant County Medical Society (TCMS), started seeing its first patients in September 2011. The program connects the uninsured with a network of physician volunteers who agree to provide free healthcare to PATC patients.

Community partners, such as local hospitals, ancillary providers, charitable clinics, and other healthcare organizations donate their time, services, and facilities to assist PATC patients. To qualify, patients must be residents of Tarrant County and fall within a specific income bracket. Dr. Brotherton was one of the first physicians to sign up to help PATC and saw his first patient last fall.

“Dr. Brotherton is mission-minded and a generous physician who enjoys helping those who need healthcare the most,” said Katie Dyslin, PATC Executive Director. “When TCMS approved this project, Dr. Brotherton immediately jumped on board. He’s been very enthusiastic and is a leader in the TCMS community.”

Brotherton is involved in a number of other community organizations in Fort Worth and abroad. He provides medical assistance at Texas Christian University athletic events and the Fort Worth Stock Show. He has also traveled to Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic on mission trips.

Brotherton is passionate about helping others and providing his assistance where needed. “It’s important for me to show up and do what I can for those who need help,” said Dr. Brotherton. “I have fun and truly enjoy being out in the community.”

Born and raised in Richardson, Texas, Brotherton completed his undergraduate degree at Texas Christian University, medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas, and residency at Emory Healthcare System in Atlanta, Georgia. From early on, he had a clear idea his career would be in medicine but a recommendation from a friend helped him decide to specialize in orthopedics.

In his free time, Brotherton enjoys reading, exercising, hiking, and horseback riding. He has been a member of NTSP since 1995 and has been a practicing physician serving patients in Tarrant County for 25 years.
